No to the Law of Executing Prisoners!

Behind every execution… there was a life to be lived!

The Israeli Knesset approved a law allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners on the evening of Monday, March 30, 2026, with a majority of 62 votes in favour and 48 against, after voting on it in the second and third readings!

Key Provisions of the Law:

•  It imposes the death penalty on anyone convicted of "premeditated murder in the context of a terrorist act."

•  There is no possibility of pardons, and no requirement for judicial consensus.

•  The law discriminates between inside Israel and the West Bank, where execution is the primary option in the West Bank.

•  Execution by hanging is to occur within 90 days of the confirmation of the sentence; in special circumstances, the Prime Minister may delay it for no more than  a total of 180 days.

The adoption of the law for executing prisoners is contrary to all humanitarian laws and international human rights laws, as well as the right to a fair trial, the defense by lawyers, and the legitimacy of judges in these courts.

Israeli military courts are illegal and hold no international legitimacy. The application of this law to Palestinians while exempting settlers expresses a fascist apartheid system that shows no bounds in the oppression of Palestinians, depriving them of all their rights, confiscating their lands, and replacing them with colonizers.

We in the European Alliance appreciate the positions of international human rights organizations, Amnesty International, and civil society, which reject this law, and we call on European parties, parliaments, and governments to stop their double standards, and that they instead live up to their legal commitments and take practical punitive steps to pressure the occupying government to abolish this law.

We demand that European countries cut relations and cancel strategic cooperation and economic partnership agreements with the Zionist state of genocide and ethnic cleansing.

We also call on international bodies, especially the International Criminal Court, to prosecute Israeli war criminals.

The European Alliance calls on all Arab communities and European supporters to immediately take all action possible to pressure decision-makers in Europe.

We urge all activists to participate in events such as demonstrations and seminars, especially those organized by the Alliance on Palestinian Prisoners' Day on April 17 in The Hague and on April 18 in Brussels.

We ask for solidarity in the call for the abolition of the death penalty law for prisoners and until all prisoners gain their freedom.
