Successful Event Organized at the ICC by the European Alliance in Defence of Palestinian Detainees
The Hague, 25 September 2026
On Friday, September 25, dozens of people from several European and Arab countries gathered outside the headquarters of the International Criminal Court in The Hague to welcome the delegation of lawyers and representatives of the Alliance, who entered the Court to submit numerous documents prepared by the legal team. These documents included firsthand testimonies from released prisoners regarding torture and crimes committed against them in the cells of the occupation, as well as files documenting the ongoing genocidal war, particularly against our people in the Gaza Strip.
The delegation delivered a letter from the Alliance outlining the current situation of prisoners, including the numbers of children, women, and administrative detainees. It called on international institutions and courts to fulfill their role in holding war criminals accountable while emphasizing the need not to yield to American and Israeli pressure and sanctions.
A letter of solidarity with the International Criminal Court was also submitted. It expressed opposition to interference in legal proceedings and called for the application of international law to the crimes of the occupation. The letter was signed by more than 25 European and Arab unions, communities, and organizations, led by prisoners’ institutions and the European Alliance.
At the press conference held immediately after the delegation’s departure, lawyers Khaled Al-Shouli, Abdelmajid El-Marrari, and Issa Gültelzar, along with civil society representatives Anas Abu Saada, Hamdan Al-Dmeiri, and Yousef Shihab, spoke about the positive atmosphere surrounding the meeting with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court. They also discussed the steps being taken to pursue the extremist minister Itamar Ben-Gvir over his criminal practices against prisoners. Al Jazeera covered the meeting, and the press conference was documented as part of a documentary film currently being produced in Brussels.
The conference concluded with a speech of thanks by the Alliance’s General Coordinator, Dr. Khaled Hamad, to the lawyers and civil society representatives. Participants—particularly the Europeans—reaffirmed their commitment to continuing to convey the prisoners’ message until their demands are met, they regain their freedom, and they can live among their families and people.
